December 2009. I was telling a good friend about an idea I had for a new Fairtrade Shop. We had both been active supporters of Sust! shop in Milton Keynes, a dedicated fairtrade shop, with volunteers at its heart and a passion for all things fairtrade the common purpose. Sadly after 5 years Sust! closed its doors when the larger neighbouring stores moved location and we lost our footfall. It was a big loss and one I felt needed to be addressed. My idea was to combine fairtrade, organic products and homewares, alongside regionally cafted products.
I have been a designer maker in this area for many year, the shop is to combine my passions for the handmade and fairtrade. The aim to support emerging makers, and artizans alongside fairtrade producers. Fairtrade in its widest context. Naturally, as I believe fairtrade has a positive impact on the environment, because of the way in which products are grown and manufactured, I’m also interested in eco-products, so there has to be room for BioD, Ecover and Ecozone on the shelves, for example.
Fairtrade, organic, eco-freindly, local – shopping has never felt so GOOD!
